Liton for industrial improvement in Rajshahi
RAJSHAHI, March 31, 2019 (BSS) – Rajshahi Mayor AHM Khairuzzaman Liton has
urged the chamber leaders and entrepreneurs to make the industrial
improvement process in Rajshahi more vibrant through investment for infusing
dynamism into its economic activities.
He also sought foreign investment here as it’s enriched with massive
natural resources including surplus agricultural production. Foreign
investment can be the vital means of fostering economic condition.
The mayor was addressing the oath-taking and installation ceremony of new
executive committee of Rajshahi Chamber of Commerce and Industries (RCCI) at
its conference hall here yesterday as chief guest.
Chaired by RCCI President Md Muniruzzaman the meeting was addressed, among
others, by Additional Deputy Commissioner Alamgir Kabir and RCCI Vice-
presidents Mashudur Rahman and Nasimul Gani Khan.
Mayor Liton focused on the agricultural potentials of the region with
special emphasis on value added agro-processing opportunities and agro-based
industries. It could add to the industrialization efforts of agro-based and
agro-processing industry in the region for a sustainable and well-formed
linkage of production, processing and marketing.
He, however, told the meeting that the present government of Prime
Minister Sheikh Hasina is very much positive towards establishing more
industries here to lessen the pressure on Dhaka.
The government had already decided to set up the second unit of Bangladesh
Small and Cottage Industries Corporation (BSCIC), a special economic zone and
a leather industry in Rajshahi for boosting its socio-economic condition.
