Physicians directed to be present in hospitals timely

RANGPUR, March 30, 2019 (BSS) -The physicians, officials and employees must be present in the hospitals in due time and ensure medical treatments and health services to the patients to avoid stringent measures.

Secretary to the Department of Health Services of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare Mohammad Asadul Islam today said this while addressing a divisional level workshop held at RDRS Bangladesh auditorium here as the chief guest.

The Department of Health Services of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare organised the workshop on “Achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) in the health sector and fourth health population and nutrition sector programmes (HPNSP).

The Civil Surgeons of all eight districts in Rangpur division, Superintends of the 200-bed hospitals, physicians of the Department of Family Planning, public representatives, field level staffs, NGO representatives and civil society members were present.

Presided over by Divisional Director (Health) Dr. Amal Chandra Saha, Rangpur City Mayor Mostafizar Rahman Mostafa, President of Rangpur unit of Bangladesh Medical Association Dr Delwar Hossain addressed the workshop as special guests.

Joint Chief of the Department of Health Services Dr. AA Mohammad Mohiuddin Osmani, Deputy Chief Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman, Director of Rangpur Medical College Hospital Dr. Ajay Chandra Roy and Rangpur Civil Surgeon Dr Abu Md. Zakirul Islam spoke on the occasion.

The Health Secretary said the present government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced zero tolerance policy against all sorts of corruptions in every sector, including the most sensitive health services sector.

“Stringent measures will be taken to eliminate of all kinds of irregularities, including ‘playing’ with human lives, negligence, misconduct and misbehavior in the name of providing treatments, corruption and misuse of power,” Islam said.

He categorically cautioned the physicians, officials and employees of taking stern actions against them for their failure, if any, to ensure proper treatments to the patents.

“The Anti-Corruption Commission has already started taking actions against the corrupt officials, including 11 high officials of the Department of Health Services, working in different hospitals of the country,” the Secretary mentioned.

He said strict measures have already been taken against corrupt high officials and employees of the Department of Health Services, irrespective of their power and the process would continue to attain the SDGs in the health sector.
