Faulty buildings to be identified within 15 days: Rezaul
DHAKA, Mar 30, 2019 (BSS) – Public Works and Housing Minister SM Rezaul Karim today said buildings constructed in the city in violation of rules will be identified within 15 days.
“If necessary, the buildings built violating rules will be sealed off and demolished for saving life and property of the people,” he said while visiting the fire-razed Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) kitchen market in the capital’s Gulshan 1 area.
Rezaul said the 15-day drive to indentify the risky buildings will start tomorrow and actions will be taken against the responsible persons including the owners, developers and officials for the construction of buildings without taking proper safety measures.
He said the government is very sincerely dealing with the building code violators to avoid untoward incidents.
The minister visited the area as fire broke out at the kitchen market of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) in Gulshan-1 early today.
A five-member committee led by Deputy Director of fire service Shamim Ahsan Chowdhury was formed to probe the fire incident. The committee has been asked to submit its report within seven days.
