Steps underway to enhance capacity of fire service: Asaduzzaman

DHAKA, March 29, 2019 (BSS) – Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan today said steps are being taken to enhance the capacity of the Bangladesh Fire Service and Civil Defence Department for ensuring security in the city.

“We are taking steps to improve the capacity of fire service for security in the Dhaka city. We are appointing advisers in this regard. Following the suggestions of the adviser, the fire service department will be recast,” he said.

The minister was speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration session of the “Bangabandhu Inter-University Sports Champs 2019” at the Hatir Jheel in the city.

Asaduzzaman Khan informed that one fire service station is being constructed in each upazila across the country.

He said the fire fighter of the fire service department have already established an example of fast service. If anyone calls the fire service through 999, they are reaching the spot fast and taking necessary measures.

“Now, they are able to douse fire of the multi-storied building. We will take initiatives to purchase more equipment in this regard,” he added.

The home minister said “You know that in 2009, when the fire took place in Bashundhara City, the fire fighters faced different difficulties. Now, they are working to control the fire of high-rise buildings.”

State Minister for Youth and Sports M Zahid Ahsan Russel presided over the session while Secretary in-Charge of the Youth and Sports Dr M Zafaruddin, among others, was present.
