7 killed in Madaripur road accident

MADARIPUR, March 28, 2019 (BSS) – At least seven people were killed and several others injured as a bus plunged into a nearby ditch on Dhaka-Barisal highway in Kolabari area of Sadar upazila around 11:30 am here today.

The deceased were identified as Habib Hawladar, 50, Abbas Khan, 30, Hasia Begum, 50, Nayan Hawlader, 30, Ranu Begum, 45, Sajib, 13, and Ambia Begum, 65.

Police said the bus was heading to Madaripur from an Islamic program at Chandrapara of Sadarpur in Faridpur.

The accident took place when it tried to avoid head-collision with a truck in Kalabari area. The driver lost control over the steering and veered off the road, plunging into a roadside ditch.

Madaripur Superintendent of Police Subrata Kumar Halder said: “Being informed, police and Fire Service personnel rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies”.

The injured people have been sent to the Madaripur sadar hospital, he said, adding that the death toll may rise.

The bodies were kept at the Madaripur sadar hospital morgue.
