Bangladesh HC observed Independence Day in London

DHAKA, March 27, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh High Commission in London has celebrated the 48th anniversary of Independence and National Day with a pledge to build Bangladesh as a progressive and secular country imbued with the values of the Liberation War.

It chalked out elaborate programmes to mark the day. the programmes included- offering special prayers for Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his martyred family members as well as all martyrs of the liberation war, hoisting the national flag in the morning atop the High Commission, reading out the messages of President, Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and State Minister for Foreign Affairs, a press release received here today.

In the afternoon, a reception and cultural programme were held at the Kennington Town Hall, it added.

The reception programme was attended by lawmakers Israfil Alam and Muhammad Nazrul Islam, Principal Coordinator for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Affairs in the Prime Minister’s Office Md Abdul Kalam Azad, Secretary (Coordination and Reformation) of the Cabinet Division Md Shamsul Arefin, one of the organizers of the Liberation War in the United Kingdom (UK) Sultan Mahmud Sharif, renowned singer Runa Laila, UK Awami League General Secretary Syed Sajidur Rahman Faruk and cultural personality Shami Kaiser.

The High Commissioner to the UK Saida Muna Tasneem, in her welcome speech, urged everyone to join the country’s development spree to establish Bangladesh as a vibrant, progressive and secular country imbued with the spirit of the liberation war.

Referring to the successful visit of the Prime Minister to the UK, she said that the relation between Bangladesh and UK has been strengthened.

“The Bangladesh High Commission is working relentlessly with the UK government and the expatriate Bangladeshis so that they can celebrate the birth centenary of the Father of the Nation in the United Kingdom next year as well as the 50 years of Bangladesh-UK diplomatic relation in 2021.” She added.

In the cultural event, the Hill ethnic group coming from Bangladesh and Bangladeshi-British community artists participated under the arrangement of the Cultural Affairs’ Ministry.

Through their performance, they portrayed the history, heritage and culture of Bangladesh.

One of the attractions of the day’s programme was the ice-made National Monument.
