Bangladesh missions abroad celebrate Independence and National Day

DHAKA, Mar 27, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh missions abroad on Tuesday
(yesterday) celebrated the 49th Independence and National Day amid patriotic
zeal, pride and enthusiasm.

Bangladesh Permanent Mission to the United Nations has hosted a reception
in honour of the mission chiefs and diplomats of different countries posted
in UN Permanent Mission in New York, USA, a press release said.

Over 100 diplomats of different countries, including India, Japan,
Germany, South Korea, Australia, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Indonesia,
Kuwait, Cuba, South Africa, and Belgium, joined the reception held at
Bangabandhu auditorium of the mission on Tuesday evening.

Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the UN Masud Bin Momen, and senior
officials of the mission welcomed the guests at the venue, according to a
message received here today.

The function began with singing of the national anthem.

Later, in his welcome speech the Bangladesh Permanent Representative to the
UN paid rich tribute to the memory of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman, Begum Fazilatunessa Mujib, four national leaders and the 30
lakh martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the country’s nine- month War
of Independence in 1971.

Describing Bangladesh as a peaceful country, he said the present government
of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is pursuing its foreign policy following the
path of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman based on the principle- “friendship
to all malice to none”.

Momen said the government is working relentlessly to reach the fruits of
independence at the doorsteps of people aiming at transforming Bangladesh
into a middle income country by 2021 and a developed one by 2041.

Later, the guests were entertained with the traditional foods of
Bangladesh. The reception was followed by a cultural function.

Bangladesh High Commission in Canberra celebrated the 49th Independence and
National Day with due reverence and festivity.

High point of the celebration was a reception hosted at the Hellenic Club.
Chief of Protocol Lyndall Sachs represented the host government.

Australian dignitaries, ambassadors and diplomats, representatives from
think-tank institutions, business entities and a substantial number of
Bangladesh diaspora attended the reception, an official release said.

Speaking at the reception, High Commissioner Sufiur Rahman paid rich
tribute to the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman as well
as to all martyrs, freedom fighters and women for their sacrifices during the
liberation war.

He recalled the contribution of great Australian soul William A.S.
Ouderland.

The High Commissioner highlighted the endeavor of the present government
under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to creating a
just and inclusive society as well as for greater progress and economic
prosperity.

the 49th Independence and National Day today with appropriate solemnity and
zeal.

Elaborate programme was undertaken to celebrate the august day.

The programme of the day began with the ceremonial hoisting of the national
flag by the Deputy High Commissioner at the Chancery in presence of the
Mission officials and members of the expatriate Bangladesh community,
including army officers undergoing training in Karachi.

The portrait of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman
was garlanded after the flag hoisting.

The most significant part of the celebration of the Independence and
National Day was ‘singing the National Anthem together’ by everyone present
at the programme.

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Seoul, South Korea celebrated the 49th
Independence and National Day with due solemnity and fervor.

On the evening, a reception was arranged at a local hotel in Seoul. Lee
Tae-ho, Vice Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Korea graced
the occasion as the Guest of Honour. Kim Kisun, MP, Chairman, Korea-
Bangladesh Parliamentary Friendship Association and Jung Woo-sung, UNHCR
Goodwill Ambassador and renowned actor were the special guests in the event.

Ambassadors and diplomats from different embassies, high-ranking government
officials, representatives of different international organizations as well
as a large number of Korean business personalities, Korean citizens and
leaders of different Bangladeshi organizations in Korea were present at the
event.

Other Bangladesh missions in different countries including France,
Philippines, Vietnam and Ethiopia celebrated the Independence and National
Day with due solemnity and fervor.
