Shahab Uddin for increasing support to address climate change impacts

DHAKA, March 27, 2019 (BSS) – Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Md Shahab Uddin today called upon development partners to increase financial assistance to Bangladesh in addressing health risks induced by climate change impacts.

He came up with the call when a delegation of the United Nations’ development agencies working in Bangladesh met him at his Secretariat office here.

During the meeting, the environment minister sought cooperation from the United Nations and its associate agencies to deal with the environmental losses and damages caused here after sheltering the forcibly displaced Rohingyas in Cox’s Bazar.

The UN delegation apprised the minister of the ongoing development projects implemented by the UN agencies in Bangladesh.

Mentioning different projects and initiatives of the present government on environment, the delegates said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina won the ‘Champion of the Earth’ award through the activities of the Environment, Forest and Climate Change Ministry.

They lauded the Prime Minister for her contribution to the protection of the country’s environment and forest.

Environment, Forest and Climate Change secretary Abdullah Al Mohsin Chowdhury, additional secretary of the ministry Dr Manzurul Hannan Khan, FAO country representative Robert Simpson, UNDP resident representative Khurshid Alam, WHO representative Dr Bardan Jung Rana, ILO officer-in-charge Snehal Soneji and UNESCO representative Beatrice Kaldun were, among others, present at the meeting.
