AL asks aspirants to collect nomination forms for MCC polls

DHAKA, March 27, 2019 (BSS) – The ruling Awami League has asked aspirants to collect party nomination forms for taking part in the maiden election to Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC) scheduled to be held on May 5.

Aspirants can collect forms from the party president’s Dhanmondi political office between 11 am and 5 pm on April 1-3 (Monday to Wednesday) and they will have to submit the applications after filling up it properly by 5 pm on Wednesday next to the Dhanmondi AL office, an AL press release said today.

Earlier, an extended meeting of the executive committee members of Mymensingh City, thanas and wards will recommend a three-member mayoral panel for the MCC polls. There must have the signatures of the presidents and general secretaries of city, thanas and wards units respectively.

Besides, each ward unit of Mymensingh city will also hold a meeting with its executive committee members and will also prepare a list of three-member councilor’s panel, mentioning their all necessary particulars, including possible popularity and leadership quality, before submitting to the Dhanmondi AL office, it said.

The same rules will be followed for the female reserved seats candidates (one reserved seat consists of three wards0.

The government upgraded Mymensingh to Bangladesh’s 12th city corporation on October 15 of last year.

The 91.135 square kilometres boundaries of the Mymensingh City Corporation, composed of 33 general wards and 11 reserve wards, was set out in a gazette on Jan 28 of this year. The total population of the area is 471,858.
