BSS holds skill development workshop for correspondents

DHAKA, March 27, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS), the national news agency, today organized a daylong workshop for its district correspondents to enhance their skills.

Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud inaugurated the workshop at Press Institute of Bangladesh (PIB) here while BSS Managing Director and Chief Editor Abul Kalam Azad presided over the opening session.

BSS Chief News Editor (CNE) Anisur Rahman, Pirganj correspondent ATM Mazharul Islam, Pirojpur correspondent Gautam Chowdhury and Meherpur correspondent Dilruba Khatun also spoke at the inaugural function, conducted by BSS National Desk Editor Anup Kumar Khastagir.

BSS City Editor Madhusudan Mondal and Chief Reporter Tareq Al Naser were present on the occasion, among others.

Professor Dr Mofizur Rahman of Dhaka University Mass Communication and Journalism Department, Anisur Rahman, Anup Kumar Khastagir and Online in-Charge of BSS Md Tanzim Anwar conducted different sessions of the workshop.

Speaking at the inaugural function, Hasan Mahmud urged the journalists to work with the accountability to society. “You should work properly and bring diversity in work … You should write more investigative reports for the betterment of society,” he added.

The minister said ‘time’ is very much ‘crucial’ for a news agency and it is more important in the present competitive field. If a reporter fails to send the news quickly, it will become useless for the reader as well as for the organization, he added.

In his speech, BSS chief editor Azad urged the BSS correspondents to perform their job with utmost sincerity. “Everyone should work keeping pace with the current era. But there will be no compromise with the quality of reports,” he added.

Later, certificates were given among the participants in the closing session of the workshop where PIB Director Ilias Bhuiyan and BSS senior journalists were present.
