‘DPL not a great platform for World Cup’ – Mithun

DHAKA, March 27, 2019 (BSS) – A day after BCB President Nazmul Hassan and
ODI captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza agreed simultaneously that there was a gulf
of difference between domestic and International cricket, Bangladesh middle
order batsman Mohammad Mithun too stressed on the needs of special
preparation campaign, keeping the Ireland and England condition in mind.

Bangladesh will play a tri-nation series in Ireland, also involving the
hosts Ireland and the West Indies before they take part in the cricket’s
biggest extravaganza ICC Cricket World Cup in England and Wales. The tri-
nation series is slated to begin on May 5, while Bangladesh will leave the
country on May 1 to play in both the events.

Echoing the sentiment of BCB president Nazmul Hassan and captain Mashrafe
Bin Mortaza, Mithun said it will be a great mistake should they take ongoing
Dhaka Premier League (DPL) as a preparation for the tri-nation series in
Ireland and World Cup in England.

“The condition of England and Ireland will be vastly different from our
condition,” Mithun said here today.

” If we think that the we’ll take preparation for those two events by
playing DPL, it will be wrong concept. Alongside playing DPL, it is
imperative that we’ll take preparation according to the condition of Ireland
and England.”

BCB president earlier on Tuesday insisted that the gap between domestic
and international stage is too big.

“The difference in levels is pretty big even if you play well in domestic
cricket. If the tournament was in Asia, maybe it could be different. So
nothing matter how one plays here, It will be different ball game in England
as the chill weather and seaming conditions will be hostile for Bangladesh .”

Mashrafe also didn’t give emphasize on playing well in DPL.

“I am not bothered by the DPL. A lot of times I have seen people scoring
century after century here but struggling in international cricket,” he said.

“So I feel that a lot will depend on the mental readiness of the individual
and if someone is working on something specific which will be needed at the
World Cup. I think that is where focus should lie,” he added.

Mithun said the matches in Ireland rather will give them an adequate
preparation for the World Cup but winning some matches in Ireland is
imperative to boos the confidence.

“The condition of England and Ireland is same, so the matches there will
give us the adequate preparation for the World Cup. West Indies are a good
side while Ireland are also strong team in their own backyard,” he said.

“But for the time being my all concentration is in Dhaka (Premier) League.
I am yet to start preparation for the series in Ireland and World. Hopefully
I will start it soon,” he concluded.
