DHAKA, March 25, 2019 (BSS) – Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested a former leader of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) from the city for spreading derogatory remarks about the country’s Liberation War and anti-state propaganda through social media.

“Members of RAB-3 arrested President of Jatiyatabadi Cyber Dal Ashek Ahmed, 40, from the city’s Tejgaon area around 11 pm last night,” commanding officer of the RAB-3 Emranul Hasan said at a press conference at the media centre of the elite force located in the city’s Karwan Bazar area this afternoon.

Ashek was spreading controversial remarks about the number of martyrs in the country’s Liberation War through his Facebook page, the RAB official
said, adding that he (Ashek) also posted abusive remarks and photos of the national leaders on the page.

Ashek, a former student of Dhaka University (DU) Public Administration Department, has claimed that he was a vice-president of Bangabandhu Hall unit
of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD), Emranul said.

RAB sources said that Ashek was, earlier, held as a cyber criminal in February this year, but he was released after giving an undertaking.

The process is underway for filing a case against him with Tejgaon police station in this regard.
