Farooque seeks locals’ cooperation to build embankments in Naria
SHARIATPUR, March 25, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Water Resources Zaheed Farooque today sought cooperation of local people in constructing embankments in Naria upazila of Shariatpur to check erosion of the mighty Padma River here.
The state minister came up with the call while talking to reporters this morning after visiting the embankment construction works on right bank of Padma River in Molfatganj area.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is getting informed about the progress of embankment construction works on the bank of the Padma River in Naria upazila so that the erosion could be prevented there.
The Prime Minister has already instructed the authorities concerned to take necessary steps to check riverbank erosion in Naria, Farooque said.
He said she (the prime minister) also directed the contractors and others concerned to strengthen monitoring on embankment construction works so that it could be completed within the stipulated time.
Additional secretary of the Water Resources Ministry Mahbubul Islam, chief engineer of Bangladesh Water Development Board AKM Wahed Uddin, deputy commissioner of Shariatpur district Kazi Abu Taher and Naria Upazila Awami League general secretary Hasanuzzaman Khokan, among others, accompanied the state minister.
