UAE keen to expand trade ties with Bangladesh
DHAKA, March 24, 2019 (BSS) – The United Arab Emirates (UAE) today expressed its keenness to expand the business and economic ties with Bangladesh in the areas of energy and power, readymade garments (RMGs), ports and aviations, leather and jute goods, light engineering, jewelry, flower and ornamental items and plastics.
The keenness was expressed at the business conference and networking session on ‘UAE-Bangladesh Business Ties: Present Status and Future Opportunities” at a city hotel, said a press release.
The embassy of the UAE in Bangladesh, in association with the Intraco group and Royal Paradise, arranged the event.
Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Kazi M Aminul Islam was present at the session as the chief guest while UAE Ambassador to Bangladesh Saed Mohammed Al-Mheiri delivered the closing remarks and vote of thanks.
Aminul Islam said Bangladesh is now a unique platform for foreign investors. “We are hoping various UAE companies will come to our country and bring in more investment,” he said, adding that BIDA is trying to ensure safety and security for all foreign investors.
Mohammed Al-Mheiri said UAE is keen to deepen its bilateral relations with Bangladesh on all fronts.
“My country is eager to invest in different sectors in Bangladesh and we would like to extend our hands to businessmen of both the countries in order to increase the business volume,” he added.
The UAE ambassador pointed out that the recent visit of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to UAE has given a new height to the brotherly ties.
He said the two-way trade significantly increased in the recent years and the bilateral trade crossed US$1 billion.
He further said Bangladesh has set an example in the world by providing shelter to the Rohingya Muslims. “UAE is also raised its voice globally and extended wholehearted support on the humanitarian ground for the Rohingya’s growing need for aid including shelter, food, water and healthcare through different organisations,” he added.
The Deputy Head of Mission of the UAE Embassy in Bangladesh Abdulah Ali Al-Hmoudi and Managing Director of Intraco Group Mohammed Riyadh Ali, among others, spoke on the occasion.
