Shahnaz Rahmatullah laid to rest at Banani military graveyard

DHAKA, March 24, 2019 (BSS) – Eminent singer of the country Shahnaz Rahmatullah was laid to eternal rest at the military graveyard at Banani in the city after Zuhr prayers today.

Before burial, her namaz-e-janaza was held at the park mosque on 9th Road in city’s Baridhara area. Shahnaz’s husband Major (Retd) Abul Bashar Rahmatullah, relatives and a large number of people, including artistes joined the funeral prayer.

The eminent singer died of cardiac arrest at her Baridhara residence in the city last night at the age of 67.

She is survived by her husband, one son, one daughter and a host of relatives and admirers.

Shahnaz was born on January 2, 1952 to M Fazlul Haq and Asiya Haq. Late actor Zafar Iqbal and music director Anwar Parvez were her siblings.

The singer was awarded Ekushey Padak, National Film Award, Shilpakala Academy Award and Bangladesh Film Journalist Association Award during her successful career.
