DHAKA, March 24, 2019 (BSS) – Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun today laid emphasis on taking programmes for product diversifying in the state-owned sugar mills to achieve the capacity for sustaining in the competitive market.
“For making the sugar mills profitable, we will have to produce other foods side by side sugar. We will have to take projects to implement the product diversification initiative,” he said.
The minister was speaking at a meeting for reviewing the implementation progress of the projects under Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the fiscal 2018-19 at the Industries Ministry in the city, said a press release.
Mentioning the sugar industry as an important sector for the country, Humayun emphasised on taking initiatives to produce new products.
He advised the authorities concerned to take large projects instead of small projects for expediting the process of food production in the state-owned sugar mills by using the existing raw material.
Industries Secretary M Abdul Halim and senior officials of the Industries Ministry and different organizations and corporations under the ministry were present at the meeting.
