One puts on remand in gold smuggling case

DHAKA, March 23, 2019 (BSS) – A Dhaka court today put one Mizanur Rahman on a three-day remand in a case filed over gold smuggling.

Dhaka metropolitan magistrate Masudur Rahman passed the order as police produced the accused before the court and pleaded for 10 days of remand.

Customs intelligence detained Mizanur on Friday at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport with eight gold bars and ornaments weighing total 1.32 kg.

Mizanur landed here by a Bangladesh Biman flight BG-222 from Muscat, Oman, and tried to cross green channel of the airport. Customs men recovered the gold bars and ornaments hidden inside his luggage.

The estimated cost of the gold was Taka 50 lakh.
