Upazila Parishad election tomorrow in Cox’s Bazar

COX BAZAR, March 23, 2019 (BSS) – Upazila Parishad Elections will be held in five upazilas of the district tomorrow in third phase.

The upazilas are- Maheshkhali, Pekua, Ramu, Ukhiya and Teknaf.

District Election Officer Md Bashir Ahmed said the Election Commission has undertaken all preparations to hold the polls in a free, fair and peaceful atmosphere.

A total of 47 executive magistrates, five judicial magistrates will discharge their duties while more than one thousand members of police, 30 platoon BGB, six platoon RAB and members of coast guard will be deployed, said police super ABM Masud Hossain.

Plying of all modes of transport on roads and river ways remained suspended from Saturday afternoon while general holiday has been declared in five upazilas on the election day.

A total of 13 candidates are contesting for posts of chairmen of four upazila except Ukhiya where chairman has been elected unopposed. A total of 22 candidates are vying for vice-chairman and 11 candidates for vice chairman (female).
