Weather has monumental impact on earth and lives: President

DHAKA, Mar 22, 2019 (BSS) – President Md. Abdul Hamid today said weather has a monumental impact on earth and lives.

In a message on the occasion of the World Meteorological Day 2019, he said since the primitive time, the phenomena of weather and climate have been playing a very significant role in the development, advancement and ups and down of human civilization.

The President said the interaction between the sun and the earth plays a vital role in maintaining the earth’s energy balance.

At the same time, it helps to drive the entire water cycle and climate system, he said adding, the theme of this year’s World Meteorological Day ‘The Sun, the Earth and the Weather’ is time befitting in this regard.

Abdul Hamid said the adverse impact of climate change is taking its toll on weather and it is now being felt worldwide. “Therefore, it is imperative for the countries to take coordinated sustainable initiatives and exchange information on weather, climate and water in order to reduce the risks of climate change,” he added.

He said through this process formulation of national policy, creating awareness and getting clear concept on weather pattern would be possible to mitigate the risks of climate change as well as to face natural disasters.

“Bangladesh is a country of diverse weather. Here, weather pattern is inextricably linked with the production of different kinds of fruits and crops. Therefore, the exchange of inter-state weather and climate related information and accurate and timely forecasts of weather play an important role in protecting lives and properties,” he added.

The President hoped that Bangladesh Meteorological Department, would be able to disseminate weather and climate related services to the grassroots, especially to the farmers, in a timely and befitting manner.
