Modernisation of rail communication networks underway: Sujan

RANGPUR, Mar 22, 2019 (BSS) – Railways Minister Advocate Nurul Islam Sujan today said the government has taken multi-purpose development projects to modernise the railway communication networks as safe, affordable and low-cost transportation.

“We are reopening all closed rail lines, including Moghalhat-Lalmonirhat lines’ and adding broad gauge to the meter gauge lines to make those dual gauge lines for modernising our railways,” the minister said.

He was replying to questions by journalists at Lalmonirhat Rail Station in Lalmonirhat town and at Burimari Land Port on the Zero Line after visiting Burimari Rail Station in Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat this noon.

The minister said the present government has decided to purchase two hundred modern coaches this year and five hundred fifty modern coaches next year for Bangladesh Railway (BR).

As per directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, a master plan has been taken to recasting the railways to make the rail communication system faster and modern, he said. All closed railway lines will be reintroduced across the country, he added.

“We are working sincerely to reach the railway communication system at the people’s doorsteps and planning to further enhance connectivity with our neighboring four BBIN nations through railway communications,” he added.

The minister called upon the importers, exporters and common traders to transport their goods and materials from Burimari Land Port to other parts of the country by availing the services of Bangladesh Railway.

“We will implement the pledge made by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina by introducing the Intercity ‘Tinbigha Corridor Express’ train soon so that passport holder people could travel to Dhaka easily from Burimari,” he said.

Member of the Parliament from Lalmonirhat-1 constituency Md. Motahar Hossain, former MP Advocate Safura Begum Rumi, General Manager of the Western Zone of BR Khondker Shahidul Islam, Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Shafiul Arif, District Council Chairman Advocate Matiar Rahman and Police Super Rashidul Haque accompanied the minister.
