Abahani set to face sterner test

DHAKA, March 21, 2019 (BSS)-Defending champions Abahani Limited set to face a sterner test as they take on mighty Prime Bank Cricket Club in the fifth round of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL), which starts tomorrow at different venues across the city.

The high-voltage match will be held at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium.

Abahani currently top the table with full eight points, winning four matches in a row while Prime Bank won three matches to collect six points. Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club, Mohammedan Sporting Club and Legends of Rupganj also have six points but Prime Bank move to the second position with better-run-rate.

Prime Bank’s only defeat came at the hands of Prime Doleshwar in a high-scoring match in which they failed to defend 301 runs. But still they showed power cricket to win all other three matches. Their opener Anamul Haque has been in form of his life, scoring two consecutive centuries in the last two matches.

Abahani head coach Khaled Mahmud termed Prime Bank as strong opponent but said he didn’t see any reason that his side can’t win the match.

“We have got strong team and we are well balanced. I think we should continue our winning streak,” he said. DPL T20 champions Sheikh Jamal who suddenly lost form in the 50-over format and won just one match from four games so far will take on Mohammedan Sporting Club at BKSP-3 ground.

In the day’s other match, Legends of Rupganj will lock horns against Gazi Group Cricketers at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.
