Price fall in large-cap drives stocks down

DHAKA, March 20, 2019 (BSS) – Stocks closed on Wednesday of the week with downward trend due mainly to price fall in large-cap securities.

The falling major sectors were insurance and textile. A total of 149 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.

The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 30.74 points down at 5,600.56. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 3.22 points down at 1,289.71 and with 9.10 points down at 2,005.58.

The daily trade fell to 7.86 crore shares from Tuesday’s 8.72 crore shares and the day’s trade value at DSE decreased to Taka 414.69 crore from Taka 437.80 crore of the previous session.

At DSE, out of the day’s 345 securities, prices of 101 securities closed higher against 193 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were Premier Cement, Marico, RECKITTBEN, Libra Infusion and Rangpur Foundry.

The major losing companies were Sonar Bangla Insurance, Provati Insurance, Eastern Insurance, Takaful Insurance and United Insurance. BATBC topped the turnover list followed by BRAC Bank, GP, UPGDCL and Square Pharma.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with downward trend with its major CASPI 42.34 points down at 17,166.81.

At CSE, 231 issues were traded. Of those, 81 closed higher and 122 closed lower when 41.89 lakh shares worth Taka 11.38 crore changed hands.
