Govt won’t allow disrespect to Bangla: Jabbar

DHAKA, March 20, 2019 (BSS) – Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar has said the government would not accept any disrespect to Bangla language.

“The Bangali has no time to look back regarding the use of Bangla language in ICT . . . the government will show no mercy to those who don’t apply Bangla language accurately and correctly,” he added.

The minister was addressing a seminar at Soft Expo-2019 on Tuesday night jointly organized by the Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) and ICT Division.

He said Bangladesh is now on the brink of attaining technological efficiency to establish Bangla as a leading language in international arena using natural language processing, artificial intelligence and robotic.

Mentioning that basic works on Bangla language has been done by the Bangladesh Computer Council, Jabbar said many countries have lost their mother tongues along with alphabets for different reasons, but scenarios have now been changed due to technology.

Referring to 16 tools being implemented by the ICT division to enrich Bangla language, he said: “World would look at Bangladesh with amazement after the implementation of these tools.”

Bangla Language Enrich Project Director Dr Zia Uddin Ahmed, BASIS President Syed Almas Kabir and BCC Director Engineer Enamul Kabir also spoke.
