2 cabin crew, banker held with gold at HSIA

DHAKA, March 18, 2019 (BSS) – Customs officials and Armed Police Battalions
(APBn) today and early hours of Sunday detained three women, including two
cabin crew members of a Saudi Arabian Airlines and a female bank official, in
separate incidents, with illegal gold at Hazrat Shahjalal (R) International
Airport here.

“Customs officials have recovered gold ornaments and bars weighing total 5.2
kgs worth about Taka 2.70 crore from their possessions,” Deputy Commissioner
of Dhaka Customs House Athelo Chowdhury told BSS this afternoon.

Chowdhury said the two cabin crew members of Saudi Airlines are Bangladeshi
nationals — Sayma Akhter and Farjana Afrose.

“They were detained while crossing the green channel with illegal 36 gold bars
weighing about 4.2 Kgs worth about Taka 2.20 crore at about 2 am of Sunday,”
he added.

Meanwhile, APBn additional police super M Alamgir Hossain Shimul told BSS that
they detained one Razia Sultana, 50, an Assistant Vice -President (AVP) of
Premier Bank and also manager of its Kalabagan Branch, with 6 pieces of golden
ring and a chain worth about Taka 50 lakh.

She was returning here from Malaysia by the aircraft BG-87 of Bangladesh Biman
Airlines around 4:00am,

He said legal actions against them are underway as they were sent to the
police.
