Bangabandhu’s birth anniversary celebrated in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, March 17, 2019 (BSS) – The 99th birth anniversary of Father of
the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is being celebrated here today
with due respect and festivity.

The day is also celebrated as the National Children’s Day.

District administrations, Bangladesh Shishu Academy, Zila Shilpakala
Academy, Health Department, Islamic Foundation, Social Services Department,
District Information Office, Jatiya Mohila Sangstha, Bangladesh Awami League
and academic institutions including socio-cultural organisations chalked out
elaborate programmes marking the Day.

The programmes included hoisting of national and party flags at the party
offices of AL in the morning, placing floral wreaths at the moral of
Bangabandhu at pour park, bringing out colorful rally, arrangement of art and
good hand writing competitions and prize distribution.

The programmes also included holding milad and doa mahfil, offering special
prayers at the mosques, temples and churches for the salvation of the
departed soul of Bangabandhu, blood donation and cultural function side by
side with serving improved diets to the inmates of the government shishu
paribars.

Besides, a discussion organized by district administration was held on the
premises of Independence Square of the town here around 10 am with Additional
Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Tofayel Hossain in the chair.

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Abdul Matin addressed the function as the chief
guest and Superintendent of Police (SP) Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah, General
Secretary of Bangladesh AL (district unit) Abu Bakar Siddique and Mayor of
Gaibandha Municipality Advocate Shah Masud Jahangir Kabir Milon were present
as special guests.

Speaking on the occasion, DC Abdul Matin said the visionary leader led the
nation in every movement towards attaining democracy including the language
movement in 1952, Jukta Front Election in 1954, movement against Martial Law
in 1958, education movement in 1962, six-point movement in 1966, Mass upsurge
in 1969 and general election in 1970.

Under the charismatic leadership and responding to Sheikh Mujib’s clarion
call, the countrymen joined the War of Liberation in 1971 and earned the long
cherished independence after nine-month long armed struggle, he added.

Paying rich tribute to the memory of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman,
the DC urged the children to know the real history of the country and long
struggle life of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

SP Abdul Mannan Miah said Bangabandhu is the central source of our
inspiration, his works and ideology would remain everlasting in our midst and
emphasized on building the young generation with the spirit of the noble
qualities to materialize the dream of Bangabandhu.

Earlier, a big colorful rally led by DC Abdul Matin was brought out from
Independence Square and ended at the same venue after parading the main roads
of the town.

Similar programmes were also held in other six upazila headquarters of the
district marking the day.
