Govt working to improve living standard of haor people: Mannan

NETRAKONA Mar 15, 2019 (BSS) – Planning Minister MA Mannan today said the government has taken different pragmatic steps for improving the living condition of the people in haor areas.

Considering their wellbeing, the minister said the government is now planning to construct a flyover from Sunamganj district to Netrakona district for developing the road communication network of the haor areas at the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

The planning minister was addressing as chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of a day-long “Baul Utsab” (bard festival) on Adorsanagar Shaheed Smriti College ground at Mohanganj upazila under Netrakona district.

The festival was organized to commemorate the renowned minstrel and folk song composer Ukil Munshi.

Chaired by secretary of the prime ministers’ office Sazzadul Hasan, the function was addressed, among others, by Rebeka Mumin MP and principal of the Shaheed Smriti College Jibon Krisno Sarkar.

Independence Award recipient Professor Jatin Sarkar presented the keynote paper on Ukil Munshi for enriching the bard and folk culture in the country.

Mannan said the local culture of the haor areas enriched the Bangalee culture which has brought laurels for the country.

The minister said the government is thinking of establishing an agriculture training institute (ATI) in the haor areas in Netrakona to let the farmers know about the modern cultivation methods.
