Speakers for automation of SME sector to produce quality products

KHULNA, March 14, 2019 (BSS) – Speakers in a seminar here today stressed the need for automation of the SME sector through using information technology to produce quality products to face present global challenges of market economy.

Khulna District Administration, SME Foundation, Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industry (BSIC), Khulna Chamber and Commerce Industry(KCCI) and Bangladesh Bank of Khulna Branch jointly organised the seminar on Flourishing of Local Commodity Based Small and Medium Industry: Problem and Probability” marking the Regional SME Fair-2019.

Additional District Magistrate of Khulna Md Yousuf Ali presided over the function held at city’s Public Hall while Professor of Business Administration School of Khulna University (KU) Dr Md. Nurunnabi presented the keynote paper.

DGM of Bangladesh Bank Md. Amzad Hossain, President of National Association of Small Industries of Bangladesh (NASIB) Iftekhar Ali and DGM of Bangladesh Small and Cottage Industry (BISIC) Atiar Rahman, among other, took part in the discussion.

Laying importance on more participation of women in the SME sector, speakers said the SME Foundation will have to play a vital role to increase the number of women entrepreneurs to the sector.

Speaker particularly highlighted the role of women in creating employment opportunities for significant numbers of the unemployed men and women after making the family members self-reliant.

Development of SME is crucial as the sector can play a vital role to turn Bangladesh as a middle income country by 2021 through double digit growth, they said.

Speakers highlighted various steps taken by the Board of Investment for flourishing Small and Medium Industry and Bangladesh Bank to provide financial aid to the entrepreneurs side by side with technical support.

They laid importance on coordinated functioning of the concerned agencies, targeted planning of the government, ensure supply of raw materials and fuel and put in place a better and cost effective communication for flourishing SME sector.

Participants called for mitigating suffering in getting bank loan, establishing sales center for marketing of the goods, field level visit of the grassroots level officials and arrange training program for new entrepreneurs.
