Campaign of UP polls begins in Khulna
KHULNA, March 14, 2019 (BSS) – Election campaign began in all nine
upazilas of Khulna from today afternoon after 26 candidates received symbols
for chairman posts, 43 for vice-chairmen posts and 36 for women-vice-chairman
posts from the Returning Officer at the deputy commissioner’s office.
Of them, two AL chairman candidates of Batiaghata and Phultala upazila
parishad and one AL vice – chairman candidate of Dakop upazila are going to
be elected unopposed as opponent AL rival candidates withdrew their candidacy
yesterday, last day of nomination paper withdrawal.
They are Akram Hossain and Ashraful Alam Khan, incumbent upazila
chairmen of Phultala and Batiaghata upazila parishad, and Gauranga Prasad
Roy, AL leader of Dakop upazila, confirmed Ziaur Rahman, Returning officer
who is also additional deputy commissioner (General) of Khulna.
At least 7 AL candidates with ‘boat symbol’, 12 AL rivals and 5 from
different parties are contesting for chairmen posts while 42 for vice-
chairman and 36 for women vice-chairmen posts are contesting in nine upazila
parishad of Khulna.
The fourth phase upazila parishad election will be held in all nine
upazila in Khulna on March 31.
