Second South Asian Photo Festival begins in Rangpur

RANGPUR, Mar 14, 2019 (BSS) – The three-day second South Asian Photo Festival-2019 kicked off at Rangpur Public Library auditorium in the city today.

Rangpur Photographic Society (RPS) with Rangpur Photo Journalists’ Association (RPJA) is jointly organising the festival at Rangpur Public Library auditorium dedicating to the supreme sacrifice of the martyrs for independence during the War of Liberation.

Divisional Commissioner Mohammad Joynul Bari launched the festival by cutting ribbon at inaugural function as the chief guest.

Presided over by Convener of RPS Mahtab Litan, Principal of Rangpur Police Lines School and College Professor Dr. KM Jalal Uddin Akbar, Acting President of district Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, former Secretary of District Shilpokola Academy Tauhidur Rahman Tutul, Senior Cameraperson of 71 Television from Dhaka Shamsul Huda attended the function as special guests.

Member-secretary of RPS Shahidur Rahman Shahid delivered welcome speech in the launching function moderated by Office Secretary of RPJA Rezaul Karim Jiban.

Talking to BSS on the festival venue, Shahidur Rahman Shahid said 100 still photos sent by photographers from Bangladesh, India, Nepal, Bhutan, Thailand and Sri Lanka are being exhibited from 10 am to 8 pm daily in the festival.

“The panel of adjudicators will pronounce 10 best photographs being displayed in the festival and the sender photographers of those will be awarded in the concluding function to be held on March 16 next,” Shahid added.

Special workshops on photography for students of different educational institutions are also being arranged daily on the festival venue.
