Lack of experience cost us the series: Mithun

DHAKA, March 13, 2019 (BSS)-Bangladesh middle order batsman Mohammad
Mithun said that they left no stone unturned in their attempt to make
resistance against New Zealand.

His comment came amid the criticism that Bangladeshi batsmen looked
‘undetermined’ to deal with the New Zealand bowlers in the first two Tests,
in which they conceded an innings margin defeat to loss the three-match
series.

Mithun defied the notion, saying that they gave their 100 percent but
unfamiliar condition and the New Zealand bowlers’ skill left them in position
of embarrassment.

“I am sure everybody tries to give their 100 percent,” Mithun said in
Christchurch on Wednesday. “We are not playing for any street-side team, we
are playing for our country. We tried our best and gave our 100 percent.”

Apart from Tamim Iqbal and stand-in skipper Mahmudullah Riyad, no one
looked comfortable against the short ball barrage of Kiwi bowlers. Even
though Soumya Sarkar scored a century in the first Test, he was not
consistent enough.

Mithun who scored runs at regular basis in the ODI series, found him
vulnerable in the Test series against short balls. According to Mahmudullah,
most of the Bangladeshi batsmen were caught in ‘double mind’ to what to do
against short stuffs.

Mithun didn’t differ with the interim skipper but reiterated that their
lack of experience was one of the reasons behind their horrible result.

“This is what the Test cricket is all about. It tests your mental
strength. But if you ask, I will say, I tried with my 100 percent,” Mithun
said.

“ODI and Test is totally two different formats. The plan of the bowlers
also changes when he bowls in the Test cricket. Moreover we didn’t have
enough time to cope with the condition. And the strategy with which their
bowlers bowl, creates a lot of problem for us.”

“We have never got such type of wicket in our country. It’s tough to
prepare such kind of wicket in our region. They have experienced bowlers,
which we don’t get. They became experienced after playing so many matches. If
we and our bowlers get matches regularly, we will also be better,” he argued.
