Govt working to improve standard of higher education: Dipu Moni

Dhaka, March 13, 2019 (BSS) – Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni today said
the government is working restlessly to improve the standard of higher
education aiming to create skilled manpower in the country.

“Everyone must work together to create skilled manpower here. That’s why
there is no alternative to higher education,” she said while addressing the
8th convocation of Daffodil International University on its permanent campus
located at Ashulia, Savar.

Dipu Moni said the country is now on the right track of development under
the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and it is advancing fast.
“Bangladesh has already turned into a digitalised one,” she added.

She said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken several steps to
reorganize all the tiers of the country’s higher education.

Noting that the country’s private universities is a potential sector for
higher education, the minister said at present, the number of private
universities is higher than the public universities in the country. “The
number of students of private universities is also higher compared to the
students of public universities,” she added.

Urging the new generation to build themselves as the architects of future
Bangladesh, Dipu Moni said Bangladesh has already turned into a prosperous
and developing country and that is why the students of new generation have to
take the lead in building “Digital Bangladesh”.

Speaking at the convocation, chairman of the University Grants Commission
Prof Abdul Mannan said there are 103 private universities in the country,
while 72 percent people are literate here.

Terming the higher education a tool of development, he said there is no
alternative to developing higher education.

Porf Pornchai Mongkhonvanit of Siam University, Thailand, addressed the
event as the convocation speaker.

Daffodil University vice-chancellor Prof Dr Yusuf Mahbubul Alam, its pro-
vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mahbub Ul Haque Majumder, trustee board chairman Dr
Md Sabur Khan and registrar Prof Dr AKM Fazlul Haque, among others, spoke.

A total of 5,631 newly graduates, including 156 foreign students, were
conferred with degrees at the convocation.
