Govt wants to ensure women’s empowerment: Mannan

DHAKA, March 11, 2019 (BSS) – Planning Minister MA Mannan today said the government is working tirelessly to ensure welfare of all including the womenfolk as change is not possible in the country leaving behind the women.

“We’re working to make a change (uplift of the country) and that change is not possible without the womenfolk of the country. We have that perception in our mind and our Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also wants you (women) to come forward in this regard,” he said.

One of the main goals of the government is to ensure women’s empowerment and bring more women to the mainstream of the society and economy.

The minister was addressing a national dialogue on ‘Gender responsive budgeting and formal recognition of women’s unaccounted work’ at the Spectra Queen’s Hall in the city’s Gulshan area.

Dr Sayema Haque Bidisha of Dhaka University and Dr Sharmind Neelormi of Jahangirnagar University spoke on the occasion, while executive director of CPD Dr Fahmida Khatun made a presentation on ‘Estimating unpaid work in Bangladesh’s GDP: A conceptual framework for household satellite accounts approach.’

Executive Director of Manusher Jonno Foundation (MJF) Shaheen Anam gave the address of welcome.
