Five AL, two independent candidates win Jamalpur UP polls

JAMALPUR, March 11, 2019 (BSS) – In the first phase of upazila parishad
polls in Jamalpur, five Awami League candidates and two independent
candidates won the race held yesterday.

In Islampur upazila, AL candidate Zamal Abudul Naser Babul got 43,143 votes
and elected as chairman while his nearest rival independent candidate Md
Ziaul Haque Zia got 30,654 votes.

Md Abul Hossain in Jamalpur Sadar Upazila, Md Obidur Rahman Belal in
Madarganj upazila, Kamruzzaman in Melandaha upazila and Gias Uddin Pathan in
Sarishabari upazila were elected uncontested earlier from AL tickets
respectively.

Independent candidate Abdur Rouf Talukdar got 41,965 votes and won the race
defeating his nearest AL nominated candidate AKM Saiful Islam Bijoy who
bagged 17,233 votes in Bakshiganj upazila.

In Dewanganj upazila, independent candidate Md Solaiman Hossain bagged
36,067 votes and elected as chairman unofficially. His nearest candidate from
AL Abul Kalam Azaz got 30,654 votes.
