RANGPUR, Mar 11, 2019 (BSS) – Experts here have said efficient disaster
management has made Bangladesh a global role model in managing natural
disasters and reducing losses of human lives.

They viewed this at the discussion organised by the district
administration in association with Department of Disaster Management at Zila
School ground on Sunday to observe the National Disaster Preparedness Day-
2019.

The district administration brought out a rally on the streets and
organised drawing competitions for school students on natural disasters in
Bangladesh and distributed prizes among winners.

Members of Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station demonstrated
mock fire fighting and earthquake management drills there in presence of many
common people, officials, students, youths and teachers.

Deputy Commissioner Enamul Habib addressed the discussion as chief guest
with Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Syed Enamul Kabir in the chair.

Assistant Director of Rangpur Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Md.
Yunus Ali, District Relief and Rehabilitation Officer Md. Akhteruzzaman and
Head Teacher of Zila School AR Mizanur Rahman addressed.

Yunus Ali said the government is working with utmost sincerity to
strengthen efficient emergency response management systems, training,
education, disseminating information and warnings among common people to
reduce risks of natural disasters.

Akhteruzzaman said Bangladesh has achieved laudable success in
innovating newer ways and educating people on early preparedness and post-
disaster managements to reduce risks and losses of human lives during natural
disasters.

He said Bangladesh has become a role model of disaster managements by
reducing losses of lives through efficient managements of natural disasters
like floods, tidal surges, cyclones, droughts and erosion.

“The losses of human lives could be reduced further by ensuring adequate
disaster preparedness and providing training on basic first aids to
volunteers, students and youths to enhance their skill for assisting victims
timely on spots,” he said.
