DHAKA, March 10, 2019 (BSS) – Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud today
urged the countrymen to forge stiff resistance against saboteurs to continue
the Bangladesh’s current development spree to turn it into ‘Sonar Bangla’ as
dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
“Bangladesh is now on the highway of development under the dynamic
leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to materialize Bangabandhu’s
dream,” he told a discussion coinciding with Bangabandhu’s 99th birth
anniversary at the Jatiya Press Club auditorium here.
Hasan added: “So let’s form a strong resistance against those who want to
impede the country’s ongoing development.”
Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote (BSJ) organized the discussion to mark the
anniversary, observed as the National Children’s Day, while former lawmaker
Sarah Begum Kabori chaired the function.
Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) Managing Director and Chief Editor Abul
Kalam Azad addressed the discussion as the special guest while Awami League
(AL) South City unit General Secretary Shahe Alam Murad was present as the
key speaker.
Hasan, also the publicity and publication secretary of the ruling AL, said
the nation earlier witnessed devilish attempts to erase Bangabandhu from the
national life.
“The (past) governments of Ziaur Rahman and Begum Zia even tried to wipe
out Bangabandhu’s name and his noble works from people’s mind. But their
efforts eventually turned to be futile,” he added.
Hasan said Bangabandhu gifted the people of the soil an independent and
sovereign country and the country was now on the track of development under
Bangabandhu daughter Sheikh Hasina’s dynamic and visionary leadership.
He said many world leaders including the US president, UN secretary
generals, Indian prime minister and eminent economists lauded bangladesh’s
rapid development.
“But some people are not willing to acknowledge the development — they
are (rather) busy to confuse the countrymen,” the minister said.
Hasan particularly referred to BNP leader Rizvi Ahmed’s recent misleading
comments involving Election Commission saying “this party always tries to
make questionable the role of EC and the elections”.
He urged BNP to avoid the policy to create controversies and instead
practice constructive criticism joining the parliament.
“Please come to the parliament. We also want constructive criticism of the
government for a strong democracy,” he said.
Hasan feared its election phobia could make BNP an isolated party in near
future and observed by now they were exposed to an existence crisis.
“I urge BNP to join the polls overcoming polls phobia,” he added.
Regarding another allegation of BNP leaders on its chief Begum Zia’s
treatment, Hasan said the politics of BNP is now stuck into her treatment.
“But, she is now getting world class medical treatment. Every facility is
being given to her. She gets her favorite house maid. Everyday a doctor
visits her in the jail for checkup. A physiotherapist and a nurse have been
appointed for her (as well),” he added.
Addressing the function the BSS chief editor said everyone should extend
their hands to supplement the government’s development endeavors being imbued
with the Bangabandhu’s ideals and Liberation War spirit.
He said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina developing the nation with her wisdom
and “we should cooperate her unitedly to carry ahead the ongoing development
spree”.
“The country is ours . . . so, there could be no compromise with the war
criminals and fundamentalists,” he said.
AL leader Advocate Bolram Poddar, actor Shakil Khan, actress Shahnoor,
singer SD Rubel, among others, addressed the discussion.
