Monnujan urges workers to be aware of labour act
DHAKA, Mar 09, 2019 (BSS) – State Minister for Labour and Employment Begum Monnujan Sufian today said labours should be aware about the Labour Act to enhance their dignity.
“Workers should be more aware of the labor laws rather than their rights. This will increase their dignity,” she said while addressing the biannual national conference of Bangladesh Labour Federation at the VIP Lounge of the National Press Club in the capital.
The state minister advised the workers to know the Labour Act to avert illogical movements.
“We respect their movements, but their movements must be logical and according to the Bangladesh Labour Act,” she added.
Mentioning the present government as labor-friendly, she said the government will do everything to improve the quality of workers’ life.
She said the government recently made amendment to the labor law considering the welfare of the workers.
The state minister hoped Bangladesh Labour Federation would play a positive role in protecting workers’ rights and sought the success of biannual conference of Bangladesh Labour Federation.
With Bangladesh Labour Federation President Shah Md Abu Zafar in the chair, the conference was addressed by Jatiya Sramik League president Shukkur Mahmud, The International Trade Union Confederation – Asia Pacific (ITUC-AP) General Secretary Shoya Yoshida and General Secretary of Bangladesh Labour Federation Advocate Md Delwar Hossain Khan, among others.
