Tipu for fair price at competitive market

DHAKA, March 9, 2019 (BSS) – Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi today said
fair prices of essential commodities would be ensured by establishing
competition in the market.

“Enforcement of the Competition Commission’s law has to be ensured for
fair price alongside raising mass awareness for it,” he added.

The minister was addressing a seminar titled “Role of Bangladesh
Competition Commission (BCC) for Sustainable and Inclusive Development” as
the chief guest organized by the BCC at CIRDAP auditorium.

He said the government would not give any scope to any syndicate to
increase the prices of essential commodities by hoarding rather it would
ensure the demand and supply chain ratio for fair price.

Recalling the contribution of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman in attaining independence and economic freedom for the Bangali
nation, the minister said his daughter Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is also
working relentlessly for building “Sonar Bangla dreamed by Bangabandhu.

“The country was not made independent for a group of people. So, the
government will do everything to ensure fair prices of products,” he added

Tipu Munshi said people would be affected if there is no competition in
the business and the government would prevent all types of activities which
are harmful for the people.

Commerce Secretary Md Mofizul Islam, former Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr
Atiur Rahman and FBCCI president Md Safiul Islam Mohiuddin also spoke with
BCC Chairman Md Iqbal Khan Chowdhury in the chair. Economist Dr Abdur
Razzaque made keynote presentation in the seminar.
