Saif’s 83 not out stuns Shinepukur in DPL

DHAKA, Mar 09, 2019 (BSS)-Opener Saif Hasan struck an unbeaten 83 as Prime Doleshwar Sporting Club pulled off a surprise, crushing mighty Shinepukur Cricket Club by nine wickets in their opening match of the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Fatullah today.

Saif’s 83 not out was complemented by Farhad Hossain’s 66 as the duo shared a 119-run partnership in an undefeated second wicket stand to help the side reach the winning target 176-1 in 43.4 overs after Shinepukur was shot out for 175 in 47.1 overs.

Saif’s fellow opener Shykat Ali scored 23 before being dismissed by Sohrawardi Shuvo after he and Saif combined for a 57-run partnership in the opening stand. That remained the only fallen wicket of Primer Doleshwar as Saif and Farhad patiently dealt the Shinepukur bowlers to guide the side home.

Saif smote five fours and two sixes for his 132 ball-83, his 11th half-century in the List A cricket. Farhad’s 66 came off 91 deliveries with the help of four boundaries and one six.

Skipper Farhad Reza, the man who guided Prime Doleshwar to the final of the DPL T20 tournament in the last week with his superb all-rounder performance was the wrecker-in-chief in bowling, claiming 3-32 in nine overs.

But it was left-arm spinner Arafat Sunny who made the first breakthrough by removing Shinepukur opener Sohrawardi Shuvo for just 5. Doleshwar bowlers bowling ware also complemented by some superb fielding as Shinepukur found them in hot water.

Farhad Reza then appeared in the stage as Towid Ridoy and Dhiman seemed to set them in the crease. Farhad got the better of Ridoy who scored 33 before cleaning up the tail. Delwar Hossain battled lonely to be unbeaten on 40 but was key in propelling the side past 150 runs mark.

Apart from Farhad’s 3-32, Arafat Sunny grabbed 2-31.
