Pourasava Mayor among 11 jailed for violating election code of conduct
RAJSHAHI, March 9, 2019 (BSS)- A mobile court here today convicted 11
persons including a pourasava mayor and a Union Parishad (UP) Chairman and
sentenced them to five days in prison each for violating code of conduct in
Upazila election.
The convicts are: Durgapur Poursava Mayor Tofazzal Hossain, Jhaluka UP
Chairman Mojahar Ali and their supporters Ajahar Ali, Moniruzzaman Majnu, Nur
Hossain, Solaiman Ali, Shariffuzzaman Sharif, Abul Kalam Azad, Moniruzzaman
Moni, Rabiul Islam Rabin and Sakil Hossain.
On a tip-off, a police team arrested them from the office of Pourasava
Mayor while they were holding a secret meeting there in a bid to create
anarchic activities on the tomorrow’s Durgapur Upazila Parishad election,
said Abdul Motaleb, Officer-in-Charge of Durgapur Police Station.
Executive Magistrate of the mobile court Kawsar Hamid found them guilty
of the charge and sentenced them to jail. Subsequently, they were sent to
Rajshahi Central Jail this afternoon, the police officer added.
