International Women’s Day observed in Rangpur division

RANGPUR, March 9, 2019 (BSS) – The International Women’s Day-2019 was
observed with a fresh pledge for ensuring equal rights of women and ensuring
their participation in every sector of national progress in Rangpur division
on Friday.

The district administrations, Department of Women’s Affairs (DWA),
different NGOs and educational institutions, human rights and women
organisations and other bodies chalked out various programmes to observe the
day in all eight districts of the division.

In Rangpur city, the district administration, District Women Affairs
Office, Department of Social Services, Shishu Academy, Jatiya Mohila
Sangstha, Samajtantrik Mohila Forum’, NGOs and other organisations chalked
out programmes to observe the day.

The observance began with colourful rallies which brought out on the
streets with participation of women, men, girls, adolescents, students,
officials and NGO activists followed by seminar, discussions and cultural
functions.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Ruhul Amin Mian inaugurated a two-day Women
Development Fair-2019 on the Public Library premises as the chief guest in
observance of the day.

Different government and non-governmental organisations and bodies have set
up 20 stalls on the fair premises displaying their produced items and
products.

Later, the Acting Deputy Commissioner attended the main discussion held at
Town Hall auditorium as the chief guest with District Women Affairs Officer
Kawsar Pervin in the chair.

Deputy Commissioner (General) Syed Enamul Kabir, Chairman of Rangpur unit
of Jatiya Mohila Sangstha Rosy Rahman, women activists Monjushree Saha, Somse
Ara Bilkis, human rights activist Principal Fakhrul Anam Benzu, also
addressed.

Side by side with other programmes in Thakurgaon town, the district and
police administrations jointly brought out a colourful bicycle rally with
participation of female students of different educational institutions.

Deputy Commissioner of Thakurgaon Dr KM Kamruzzaman Selim and Police Super
Md Moniruzzaman jointly led the rally on the streets creating huge enthusiasm
among the common people of the district town.

While addressing the rallies, the speakers put importance on changing the
social mindset to eradicate gender disparity for flourishing women leadership
and ensuring equal rights of the women at all levels.

They called for engaging comprehensive efforts to bring an end to violence
against women to ensure their equal emancipation in development, economy,
politics, governance, every profession and sector for building a prosperous
nation.

They also appreciated various government steps taken for ensuring equal
rights of the women to attain sustainable national uplift to build a
prosperous Sonar Bangla as dreamt by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh
Mujibur Rahman.

The day was observed through similar programmes in Kurigram, Gaibandha,
Lalmonirhat, Nilphamari, Dinajpur and Panchagarh districts of Rangpur
division.
