Rain washes out second day’s play of NZ-Bangladesh second test

DHAKA, March 9, 2019 (BSS)-Rain continued to play spoilsport in the second
Test at the Basin Reserve in Wellington as the second successive day of the
Test between Bangladesh and New Zealand on Saturday was called off.

Even the toss was not possible as the incessant rain kept the two teams at
dressing room. The drainage system of the stadium is believed to be one of
the best but the rain proved to be relentless.

Both Bangladesh and New Zealand players turned up at the ground on day two
unlike the first day as there was possibility of a play for at least an hour
in the evening session. But just after the groundstaff had completed most of
their work, another spell of rain came by and ruined everything. There is
more forecast of the rain on the third day too.

The last time there was no play over the first two days of a Test in New
Zealand was in 2001 at Hamilton between these two teams coincidentally. And
more interestingly Bangladesh lost that Test by an innings and 52 runs
margin, the same margin at which they lost the Test in Hamilton in this
series too.
