Book-reading habit stressed to build enlightened society

RANGPUR, Mar 8, 2019 (BSS) – Literary personalities and officials at a
function have stressed on building book-reading habit to acquire knowledge
for becoming progressive citizens to build an enlightened society.

They viewed this at launching ceremony of the 11-day Swadhinota Rangpur
Book Fair-2019 organised by Rangpur Sommilito Lekhok Samaj on the Public
Library ground in the city on Thursday afternoon.

Thirty-three stalls have been set up on the fair premises by 30 publication
houses including 20 from the capital city and 13 literary organisations from
Rangpur city.

The visitors can purchase novels, story books and collections of poems,
books for the children and other popular books recently displayed in the
Ekushey Book Fair-2019 in the capital city.

The book fair will remain open daily from 3pm to 9pm with provisions of
special hours for children from 3pm on the Fridays and holidays.

Rangpur Metropolitan Police Commissioner Abdul Alim Mahmud inaugurated the
fair by cutting ribbon in the launching ceremony as the chief guest with
Convener of the fair organising committee Sayeed Sahedul Islam in the chair.

Acting Deputy Commissioner Ruhul Amin Mian, City Awami League President
Shafiur Rahman Shafi and Executive Member of Bangladesh Shilpokola Academy
Biplob Prasad addressed as special guests.

Literary personalities Professor Mozammel Haque, Dr. Mofizul Islam Mantu,
AKM Shahidur Rahman Bishu and Professor Md. Shah Alam and Akbar Hossain
spoke.

Joint Convener of the fair organising committee Manjil Murad Lavlu
delivered welcome speech in the ceremony moderated by its Member-secretary
Rezaul Karim Jiban.

The speakers said the book fair would inspire common people, especially
young generations, in building book-reading habit, literary and cultural
activities to further enrich Bengali culture and literary heritage.

The chief guest said everyone should read books to acquire diversified
knowledge and become knowledgeable citizen with human virtue on way to build
an enlightened and peaceful society free from social curses, terrorism, drug
and militancy.
