No VAT registration using fake info

DHAKA, March 7, 2019 (BSS) – National Board of Revenue (NBR) has brought
some changes in VAT (value added tax) registration procedures to filter fake
information.

In the new system, the applicant has to attach or upload required valid
documents such as trade license, TIN, NID, bank accounts etc to get VAT
registration number.

Talking to BSS, VAT Online Project Director Syed Mushfikur Rahman said
taxpayer could easily get the VAT number through the user friendly online
system.

“NBR has changed the procedure to prevent the tendency of using fake
documents,” he added.

Rahman said VAT officials only issue the registration number once they
get the documents is accurate.

A total of 1.63 lakh taxpayers have received VAT registration number so
far since the introduction of VAT online system in March 2017, he added.
