National Jute Day celebrated in Gaibandha

GAIBANDHA, March 7, 2019 (BSS) – National Jute Day-2019 was celebrated in
the district as elsewhere in the country yesterday amid enthusiasm with a
call to make jute goods popular among the people.

This year’s theme of the day was ‘Golden Country of Golden Fibre (Sonali
Asher Sonar Desh), Father of the Nation’s Bangladesh (Jatir Pitar
Bangladesh)’.

Marking the day, the district administration and the Department of Jute
chalked out the elaborate programmes.

In the morning around 9am, a grand rally led by deputy commissioner (DC) M.
Abdul Matin was brought out from Independence Square and ended in front of
Zila Shilpakala Academy (ZSA) after parading the main roads of the town.

Later, a discussion meeting was also held at the auditorium of ZSA with
additional district magistrate Tofayel Hossain in the chair.

DC M. Abdul Matin addressed the meeting as the chief guest and
superintendent of police (SP) Engineer Abdul Mannan Miah and additional
deputy director of Department of Agriculture Extension Abul Kalam Azad were
present at the event as the special guests.

The meeting was also addressed, among others, by chief inspector of
district jute office Mokbul Hossain Sarker, jute development officer M.
Majedul Islam, and journalist Sarker M. Shahiduzzaman.

The speakers in their speeches underscored the need for the joint efforts
of the government and the non government institutions to regain the past
glory of jute.

DC Abdul Matin said the government led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has
taken various initiatives, including modernization of the state owned jute
mills, to bring back the glorious past of the jute sector.

The government has taken decision to provide incentives to those involved
in the jute sector so that they can export more jute products, the DC also
said.

A large number of people including farmers, students, teachers, invited
guests, NGO activists and journalists attended the programmes.
