BCB to live stream DPL to avert irregularities

DHAKA, March 6, 2019 (BSS)- Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) mulls an idea to
stream the upcoming Dhaka Premier League (DPL) 50-over format live to avert
any unwanted incident and biased umpiring.

The DPL is set to underway on March 8 with three matches across the city.
However, it is unlikely that from the inaugural day of the league the BCB
could stream live the matches.

Cricket Committee of Dhaka Metropolis (CCDM) Chairman Kazi Inam Ahmed said
they will try to materialize the idea at some point of the league.

Umpiring standard remains below par for quite some years now that raised
eyebrow, prompting even BCB president Nazmul Hassan Papon to take stern
against these irregularities.

“We will try to introduce live streaming in the ensuing DPL as there was
some allegations on this issue,” said Inam in a seminar on ‘Biased umpiring
in Dhaka Cricket’ arranged by Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association
(BSJA) here today.

“We are aware that there are issues regarding the standard of umpiring and
the BCB president has said that he wants the league to conclude properly. We
will always try to improve the quality of umpiring,” he added.

“BCB president firmly believes that we need to make all the domestic
competition free from biased umpiring. He has zero tolerance on any
irregularities. In line with his advice we’ll uproot all irregularities
whether it is in umpiring or any other sector in cricket,” he said.

Inam further said they will use cameras in all the venues to prevent the
league from any corruption. Three venues–Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket,
Mirpur, Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah and BKSP-3 ground– will be
used for three matches every day.

“There weren’t many complaints about umpiring last season, but whenever
there was one, the CCDM has spoken to the BCB’s umpires’ committee
repeatedly. We asked the umpires’ committee to give good umpires in every
game” he added.
