Stocks witness flat as major sectors plunge

DHAKA, Mar 6, 2019 (BSS) – Stock markets witnessed flat on Wednesday of the week due to price fall in large-cap securities.

The falling major sectors were food and allied, pharmaceutical and chemical. A total of 137 securities of the large-cap group moved down due to lower activities.

The broader DSEX index of Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) closed the day with 1.10 points down at 5,686.38. The Shariah DSES and the blue-chip DS30 also followed the same trend with 0.52 point down at 1,303.68 and with 2.77 points down at 1,993.13.

The daily trade fell to 12.37 crore shares from Tuesday’s 12.01 crore shares and the day’s trade value at DSE decreased to Taka 568.87 crore from Taka 575.19 crore of the previous session.

At DSE, out of the day’s 346 securities, prices of 115 securities closed higher against 180 losing issues.

The major gaining issues were PF1STMF, Takaful Insurance, SKTRIMS, Rupali Bank and Provati Insurance. The major losing companies were Savar EFR, Meghan Pet, Meghna Condense Milk, Imam Button and Premier Bank.

Monno Ceramics topped the turnover list followed by Singer BD, UPGDCL, AIL and BSCCL.

The Chittagong Stock Exchange (CSE) closed the day of the week with slightly upward trend with its major CASPI 19.44 points up at 17,422.32.

At CSE, 246 issues were traded. Of those, 93 closed higher and 118 closed lower when 66.01 crore shares worth Taka 19.53 crore changed hands.
