No scope to raise question over UP polls: EC
RAJSHAHI, March 6, 2019 (BSS)- Election Commissioner (EC) Rafiqul Islam
has categorically said there will no scope of raising any question related to
the upcoming Upazila Parishad election scheduled to be held in Rajshahi on
March 10.
“We have adopted all sorts of requisite measures to hold the election
neutral, free and fair manner,” he further said urging all concerned to
render their duties with utmost sincerity and honesty.
He was addressing a law and order related special meeting centering the
upazila parishad election at the conference hall of Deputy Commissioner’s
office in Rajshahi today as the chief guest.
Chaired by Nur-Ur-Rahman, Commissioner of Rajshahi division, the meeting
was addressed, among others, by Deputy Commissioner SM Abdul Kader,
Superintendent of Police Md Shahidullah, Commanding Officer of RAB-5 Lt Col
Mahbub Alam and Senior District Election Officer Saiful Islam.
The EC said the Election Commission is working relentlessly in a proper
coordination with local administration so that the voters can exercise their
right of franchise spontaneously.
He mentioned ensuring and maintaining peaceful situation is very important
for making the election free, fair and credible.
“Not a single unpleasant incident will happen if the party leaders
concerned control their workers and activists strictly,” he further said.
In the meeting, he urged the law enforcers to discharge their respective
duties with utmost sincerity and honesty to make the election successful and
meaningful.
After the meeting Rafiqul Islam told the journalists that the Member of
Parliament (MP) has no scope of taking part in any election campaign and the
Election Commission has already issued letter to the Jatiya Sangsad Speaker
so that any MP doesn’t take part in upazila election campaign.
