Govt. working to revive past glory of jute: experts

RANGPUR, March 06, 2019 (BSS) – The present government is working
sincerely to revive past glory of jute, the golden fibre of the country,
through boosting its production and demand both at home and abroad.

Officials and experts made the observation today (Wednesday) at a post-
rally discussion arranged at the conference room of the Deputy Commissioner
in the city in observance of the National Jute Day-2019.

The district administration in association with the Directorate of Jute
and Bangladesh Jute Research Institute (BJRI) under the Ministry of Jute and
Textiles organised the rally followed by the discussion.

Acting Deputy Commissioner and Deputy Director (Local Government) Ruhul
Amin Mian attended the discussion as the chief guest with Additional Deputy
Commissioner (General) Syed Enamul Kabir in the chair.

Acting President of district Awami League Mamtaz Uddin Ahmed, Additional
Police Super Abu Maruf Hossain, Principal Scientific Officer of Rangpur
Regional Station of BJRI Dr Abul Fazal Mollah, its Scientific Officer Mosahab
Ali, District Training Officer of the Department of Agriculture Extension Md.
Aftab Hossain, spoke as special guests.

The speakers said jute was the biggest export earning product for many
decades and Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman realised
importance of jute for the first and nationalised all jute mills to
accelerate growth of the jute sector.

Dr Abul Fazal Mollah said prospect of jute is brightening with
increasing global demand of the eco-friendly fibre that is also being used as
composite jute textile, construction materials for earthquake surviving
houses, geo-textiles and many other proposes.

“The pragmatic initiatives taken by the present government have started
reviving the past glory of jute and the jute sector as a whole through
diversifying use and adding the eco-friendly commodity again to the export
basket of the country,” he said.

Aftab Hossain said mandatory use of jute sacs during storage and
transportation of paddy, rice, wheat, maize, fertilisers, sugar, green chili,
ginger, turmeric, garlic, pulses and coriander, potato, flour and rice
leftovers is also increasing local use of the golden fibre.

The chief guest suggested for increasing multi-dimensional use of jute
and reviving past glory of the golden fibre through enhancing its
cultivation, production and export of raw jute and jute-made products also to
further strengthen the national economy.
