9.57 crore passengers travel by trains during fiscal 2017-18: Sujan

SANGSAD BHABAN, Mar 05, 2019 (BSS) – Bangladesh Railway carried about 9.57
crore passengers on its different routes of the country during fiscal 2017-18.

“Bangladesh Railway carried 9.57 crore passengers on its different routes
during fiscal 2017-18 while about 7.78 crore passengers during fiscal 2016-
17,” Railway Minister Md Nurul Islam Sujan told the parliament today while
responding to a written question placed by lawmaker Nizam Uddin Hazrai of
Feni-2 with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.

He said in East zone of Bangladesh Railway, 10 intercity and six mail trains
currently run on Dhaka-Chattogram route, while eight intercity and two mail
trains on Dhaka-Sylhet route, two intercity and two mail trains on Dhaka-
Noakhali route, six intercity and two mail trains on Dhaka-Kishoreganj route,
four intercity and two mail trains on Dhaka-Mymensingh-Mohonganj route, four
intercity trains on Dhaka-Tarakandi route, four intercity, two mail and four
commuter trains on Dhaka-Dewanganj route and two commuter trains on Dhaka-
Jaria Janzail route.

Two commuter trains run on Dhaka-Akhaura route, while two commuter trains on
Dhaka-Brahmanbaria route, four mail trains on Dhaka-Jaydevpur route, six
commuter and 26 mail trains on Dhaka-Narayanganj route and two commuter trains
on Dhaka-Tongi route, the Railway Minister said.

In West Zone of Bangladesh Railway, he said, four intercity trains carry
passengers on Dhaka-Dinajpur-Panchagarh route, while six intercity and two
mail trains on Dhaka-Rajshahi route, four intercity trains on Dhaka-Khulna
route, two intercity trains on Dhaka-Rangpur route, two intercity trains on
Dhaka-Lalmonirhat route, two intercity trains on Dhaka-Chilahati route, two
intercity trains on Dhaka-Sirajganj route, two intercity trains on Dhaka-
Kolkata route, two commuter trains on Dhaka-Tangail route and four commuter
trains on Dhaka-Kaliakoir route.
