AL will welcome BNP’s joining JS: Nasim

DHAKA, March 5, 2019 (BSS) – Awami League presidium member and 14-party alliance spokesman Mohammed Nasim, MP, today said the ruling AL will welcome MPs-elect of the BNP if they take oath and participate in the proceedings of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS).

“If they (BNP) join the parliament session, the treasury bench will cooperate with them… They will be allowed to speak on all issues,” Nasim said while speaking at a memorial meeting and doa-mahfil organized by Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote (BSJ) at the Jatiya Press Club here.

The memorial meeting marked the 6th death anniversary of former AL general secretary Abdul Jalil, while the doa-mahfil was arranged seeking early recovery of AL general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader, MP.

Nasim, a former health minister, said AL never wants to do politics without the opposition party both in and outside the parliament.

Criticizing the BNP, he said BNP has become a party of “press-briefings”, but only delivering speeches through frequent press conferences won’t bring any benefit for BNP politics.

If there is a strong opposition in parliament, it can help find faults or misdeeds of the government, he said.

Alleging that the Oikyafront MPs are not being allowed to join the parliament, Nasim said their number may be eight or 10, but they can mount pressure on the government.

Rafiqul Alam of ‘Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra’ presided over the programme. AL advisory council member Mozaffer Ahmed Paltu, former food minister Advocate Quamrul Islam, MP and AL deputy publication secretary Aminul Islam Amin, among others, spoke.

A special munajat was offered seeking early recovery of Obaidul Quader who is now undergoing treatment in Singapore.
